Assistant Professor of Cognitive Psychology
Effective Date: August 17, 2026 (Fall Semester)
Salary Range: The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary is $74,652 to $158,688/year; $6,221 to $13,224/per month (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $86,000 to $90,000 per year; $7,167 to $7,500/per month (12 monthly payments per academic year). The salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in cognitive psychology or a closely related field with degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2026.
- Ability to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses related to cognitive psychology
- Demonstrated potential for effective teaching at the college level
- Demonstrated potential for mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students
- Demonstrated ability and commitment to develop and maintain an active research program
- Evidence of research and scholarly productivity as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low socioeconomic and first generation students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Evidence of a program of high-quality research as evidenced by research and scholarly activities in the area of cognitive psychology
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following, but not limited to, sensation and perception, attention, thinking, memory, language, problem-solving, learning, artificial intelligence, and emotion and cognition
- Demonstrated commitment to effective teaching at the college level in cognitive psychology, as evidenced by a clearly stated teaching philosophy, engagement in pedagogical training and development opportunities, and strong teaching evaluations
- Interest in chairing master's thesis projects and serving on master's thesis committees
- Interest in faculty-directed research involving graduate students
- Demonstrated commitment to, and/or experience in, contributing to service at the department, university, community, or professional level
- Experience working successfully with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically like the CSULB student body
- Experience mentoring or supporting students with minoritized identities or experience using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom
Duties
- Teach a variety of courses in cognitive psychology at the undergraduate and graduate level, including, for example, Sensation and Perception (PSY331), Cognitive Psychology (PSY332), Seminar in Cognition (PSY634). [Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.]
- Mentoring undergraduate research projects
- Supervising master's theses in cognitive psychology and serving on master's thesis committees
- Provide service at the department, college and university levels appropriate to their rank
- Engage in service to the department, college, university, profession, and broader community
