Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 209.
Job Summary
The Department of Criminal Justice at Albany State University is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice-Tenure Track. The ideal candidate for this position will share our Department's goals of educating students to excel educationally and promote justice in our society. The candidate will teach courses in the department, both lower and upper-level classes.
Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses and have the potential to teach graduate courses. The successful candidate will also participate in all departmental duties including, but not limited to:
- Advising and mentoring our students, recruiting, program assessment, committee assignments, professional development, maintaining an active research agenda, and other duties as assigned.
- Teaching workload of 12 semester hours and participation in classroom instruction.
- Participating in any duties performed in the department including assessment, curriculum review, and development.
- Attending university functions, including commencement, convocation, faculty committee, and department meeting.
Furthermore, the candidate must:
- Engage in continuing scholarship and professional development, including professional publications, conference presentations, and grant writing.
- Contribute to professional organizations and the professional growth of the university.
- Demonstrate teaching experience commensurate to the level of appointment.
Required Qualifications
Doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related field.
A minimum of at least one year of teaching experience preferably in graduate-related areas of Criminal Justice.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong expertise in research, statistics, and scholarly publication.

Knowledge
- Knowledge of criminal justice theories, policies, practices, and emerging issues affecting the field.
- Knowledge of curriculum development, student learning outcomes, and academic assessment practices.
- Knowledge of research methodologies, statistical analysis, and scholarly publication standards in criminal justice.
Skills
- Strong teaching and presentation skills with the ability to engage diverse student populations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for instruction, advising, and scholarly activities.
- Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills to effectively manage teaching, scholarship, and service responsibilities.
Abilities
- Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate-level criminal justice courses and contribute to curriculum development.
- Ability to advise and mentor students while supporting their academic and professional growth.
- Ability to maintain an active research agenda and contribute to departmental, university, and professional service activities.
