Assistant Professor of Dance (Limited Term Faculty)
Job Summary
The Department of Theatre, Dance and Media seeks applicants for a non-tenure track faculty position for the 2026-2027 Academic Year beginning August 1, 2026, and ending May 10, 2027. Appointment rank will be Assistant Professor. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate's area of expertise in the Dance program as well as provide service to the department, college, and University.
Responsibilities
This position will be responsible for teaching 4 undergraduate courses per semester in fall and spring. Courses may include but are not limited to: Introduction to Dance (Dance Appreciation); Dance movement courses in at least two areas of proficiency (such as ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, world dance forms, and/or social dance); Additional responsibilities include creating concert dance choreography and mentoring students in the collaborative rehearsal process.
LTF/Assistant Professors are expected to make contributions to the Program and Department including student mentoring and departmental service.
Typical Allocation of Duties: Teaching and scholarship - 80%. Service - 20%.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Dance or closely related field completed by appointment date 08/01/2026
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning
Preferred Qualifications
- Terminal degree (M.F.A.) in Dance (or an appropriately related field and/or extensive experience in professional dance performance/choreography)
- Qualifications/experience teaching Dance History and Pedagogy
- A record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant's career stage
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting
- A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds and training
