The position carries a standard five-course annual teaching load, and entails teaching introductory and intermediate-level courses in early modern literature, including Shakespeare and non-dramatic poetry and prose, as well as upper division courses in the areas of the candidate’s field(s) of specialization, advising students, mentoring senior theses, and contributing to the general education curriculum. Faculty responsibilities additionally include professional achievement and governance and engagement, as described in Article II of the Bates College Faculty Handbook. Successful candidates will contribute to inclusive and evidence-based teaching, maintain an active program of scholarship, and participate in the life and governance of the College. A Ph.D. is required by the start of the contract.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $87,000–$91,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position begins July 2027.
