Assistant Professor of Operations Management, Fall 2027
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Haslam College of Business invites applications for one tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Operations Management (OM) position in its Department of Business Analytics and Statistics. Applicants will be expected to have expertise in an OM area (e.g., behavioral operations, health care operations, service operations, supply chain management, sustainable operations). The applicant's research program should reflect the potential for ongoing thought leadership in the discipline. The Knoxville campus of the University of Tennessee is seeking to fill the position with a candidate who can contribute in meaningful ways to the University. Effective date of employment will be August 1, 2027, or when filled.
Program Information
The Department of Business Analytics and Statistics (BAS) is housed in the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee. The Department enjoys a strong position within the Haslam College, and faculty members are active participants in college-wide programs and priorities. The University of Tennessee's Haslam College of Business is consistently ranked highly in national surveys.
Duties/Responsibilities
The candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching mission at undergraduate and graduate levels. Research requirements include evidence or strong potential for publication in top-tier journals in OM, and an interest in working with other faculty members and graduate students on collaborative research.
Qualifications
Required: Ph.D. degree in business administration or a related discipline (such as management science, industrial engineering, economics) with qualifications at time of hire to be appointed at the rank of assistant professor. In addition, the candidate should have at least one publication or working paper that has received a “major revision” or better decision at a top-tier OM journal.
Preferred: The candidate should be able to demonstrate their ability to conduct analytical, behavioral, or empirical research that is methodologically rigorous, and managerially relevant. The candidate should also work effectively as a contributing member of a faculty team, with a scholarly research record focused on top-tier journal publications in the field, such as the journals listed in the UT-Dallas list of business journals. The ideal candidate will also possess a demonstrated history of teaching excellence (or show the potential to become an outstanding teacher, such as experience as a teaching assistant in its Ph.D.-granting institution). Faculty in the Haslam College can expect opportunities to teach across a variety of programs including traditional undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. as well as executive education programs. The preferred candidate will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses offered by the BAS department. Preference will be given to candidates with track record or articulated future willingness to engage in Graduate and Executive Education programs.
