Assistant Professor of Social Work
Position Overview
Talladega College invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Social Work at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, student-centered department dedicated to providing a high-quality, hands-on education in social work. The Assistant/Associate Professor will teach undergraduate courses in social work, engage in research and scholarship, provide academic advising, and contribute to departmental service and College-wide initiatives.
Specific Qualifications
- Education: A Master of Social Work (MSW) from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited program is required. A Ph.D. in Social Work or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Experience: A minimum of two years of post-MSW professional social work practice. Experience in teaching at the undergraduate level is preferred. Demonstrated ability to engage in research and scholarly activities. Field supervision experience is highly desirable.
- Other Requirements: Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to use technology to enhance teaching and learning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Social Work or enrollment in a Ph.D. program.
- Field Education Experience as a field liaison or field supervisor.
- A clear research agenda and interest in publishing.
- Active participation in professional organizations such as NASW.
- Experience or interest in grant writing.
- Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a social worker in Alabama.
Job Responsibilities
- Teaching & Instruction: Teach undergraduate courses, develop materials, use innovative strategies, maintain office hours and advise students.
- Research & Scholarly Activity: Engage in research, publish, present, seek funding, mentor students.
- Field Education & Student Support: Supervise students in field placements, work with field coordinator.
- Service & Community Engagement: Serve on committees, participate in recruitment, foster partnerships.
- Program Development & Assessment: Contribute to curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation.
