Position Description

The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Department of Medicine, at the University of Washington invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, without tenure due to funding (WOT), with an anticipated start date of September 2026. Specific rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as generally described in UW’s Faculty Code Section 24-34. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research focused on HIV and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Scholarship, teaching, and clinical service will be considered integral to this position. Clinical work will be both inpatient and outpatient and will focus on outpatient care in the General Pulmonary clinics, as well as inpatient service based on division and section needs at the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) or Harborview Medical Center (HMC). Teaching responsibilities will include clinical bedside teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows.

This appointment would align with a 12-month service period (July 1–June 30), where faculty are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period. Assistant professors are eligible for multi-year appointments; associate professors hold indefinite appointments.

The base salary range for this position at the Assistant Professor rank will be $19,250–$20,334 per month and at the Associate Professor rank will be $23,250–$25,068 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Our Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine is a collaborative and multidisciplinary community of over 200 faculty, fellows, researchers, advanced practice providers, and staff across five major clinical sites in Seattle, including UW Medical Center–Montlake, Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center–Northwest, the VA Puget Sound Health Care System, and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. We are home to several highly active centers, including the Center for Lung Biology, the Cambia Palliative Care Center of Excellence, the Center for Interstitial Lung Disease, and the Sepsis Center for Research Excellence (SCORE-UW). Our mission integrates excellence in clinical care, research, and education, spanning foundational science through translational, clinical, and population health research, with a strong emphasis on mentorship and the development of physician-scientists through our long-standing NIH T32 training program. Our Division faculty excels in research productivity and impact spanning high-impact journals across the fields of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine. In 2024 alone, our T32 mentors secured approximately $46 million in research funding and contributed to over 300 publications.

Qualifications

Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  1. MD/DO degree or foreign equivalent
  2. Board certification or eligibility (or foreign equivalent) in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
  3. Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of Washington
  4. To be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S,) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
