Dental Hygiene

College of Dentistry

The College of Dentistry at The Ohio State University is seeking a qualified and passionate individual to join our dental hygiene program in a temporary placement position as an assistant professor-practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dental hygiene, clinical experience, and a commitment to educating and mentoring the next generation of dental hygienists. This is a part-time, one semester placement with responsibilities in teaching, clinical and laboratory supervision for the Summer semester.

Please note for this temporary position, there are two open positions totaling 2 days per week. Depending on candidate pool, the position may be offered at 16 hours per week to one candidate or 8 hours per week to 2 candidates.

Responsibilities:

Teaching

  • Provide instructional support in pre-clinical and laboratory sessions.
  • Evaluate student work according to established rubrics.
  • Foster a positive and interactive learning environment that promotes student engagement and success.
  • Maintain current educational methodology professional development.

Clinical Education

  • Provide hands-on clinical supervision and education to dental hygiene students during patient care procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with established protocols and ethical standards in the clinical setting.
  • Offer constructive feedback to students to enhance their clinical skills and professionalism.
  • Evaluate student work according to established rubrics.
  • Foster a patient-centered, team oriented learning environment.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required

  • A Bachelors degree in Dental Hygiene.
  • Current Ohio licensure as a dental hygienist.
  • Meets OSDB requirements to administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide sedation.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and clinical practice.

Desired

  • Graduate degree in dental hygiene or related field.
  • Experience in dental hygiene education.
  • Strong clinical experience in dental hygiene practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Active involvement in professional organizations and commitment to continued professional development.
