Job Description

The Department of Architecture invites applications for one Tenure Track position in Architecture and Technology at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The Department of Architecture in the College of Design and Engineering is ranked among the top 10 in the world, and Asia’s best in Architecture/Built Environment, by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (2025). It offers the professionally accredited Master of Architecture programme as well as a range of graduate and undergraduate programmes in related fields such as urban planning and design, architectural conservation and landscape architecture. The faculty is correspondingly diverse and international. The Department offers internationally competitive remuneration, generous employment benefits as well as access to research funding for both junior and senior academics. International applicants will also receive subsidised housing at Kent Vale, a faculty residence on the NUS campus.

Qualifications

The Technologies Cluster at the Department of Architecture seeks highly qualified applicants actively engaged in interdisciplinary research focused on, but not limited to, one or more of the following themes:

  1. Architectural materials and construction
  2. Computational thinking and parametric modelling

The successful candidate is expected to teach one or more core courses, particularly in areas related to the above themes. The candidate should also be interested in running a design studio in an interdisciplinary setting.

The candidate is expected to develop an interdisciplinary research agenda adopting and developing advanced technological, computational and/or material approaches to address pressing challenges to the built environment, particularly within Asia. They are strongly encouraged to pursue collaborative research in the context of the College of Design and Engineering as well as with industry partners and government agencies within and beyond Singapore.

The candidate should possess a Ph.D. degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Engineering or related disciplines, as well as requisite experience and credentials suitable for full-time tenure-track appointments in NUS. Alternatively, applicants can express their preference for a practice-track position if they can demonstrate strong professional experience in the relevant fields. For these applicants, they should submit a portfolio showing major projects and other forms of practice in addition to other requirements. They should also hold a relevant graduate degree (Master or above) by the time of appointment.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to deliver a seminar at NUS between August and November 2026. Expected start date of the appointment is early to mid-2027.

  4. A statement of Research (including a short research plan for next three to five years maximum three pages) – citing up to five significant publications, creative work or other scholarly contribution and explaining their significance, and a writing sample.
  5. A complete list of publications, grouped according to papers, books, and reviews, including page numbers, in bibliographic form.
  6. Names of four referees with contact details (who will be contacted only if shortlisted). Please highlight any referee who was a member of your PhD dissertation committee.
