Background of the recruitment and description of the project
Kyushu University is seeking an experienced individual with expertise in research and teaching for appointment as an Assistant Professor (tenure track) in the Laboratory of Pesticide Chemistry, Division of Molecular Biosciences, Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture.The Division of Molecular Biosciences conducts research on functional molecular chemistry and the applied biological sciences related to the elucidation of the mechanisms of biologically active compounds…
and the expression and regulation of diverse biological phenomena. On these molecular basis of agriculture and life sciences, the Division systematically conducts applied research to promote social implementation.The Division also conducts the education of ndergraduate and graduate students to systematically train them so that students understand biological phenomena at the molecular level and promote activities by using their knowledge for the well-being of humans. In this context, education and research in the Laboratory of Pesticide Chemistry are directed toward "the development of biologically active compounds for agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals using judicious molecular design, novel synthetic chemical reactions, and synthetic methodologies."We intend to hire an Assistant Professor who will focus on developing education and research in:
- Advanced organic chemistry research to create biologically active compounds for agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals, conducted on the basis of judicious molecular design, novel synthetic chemical reactions, and synthetic methodologies;
- Chemical research to develop novel functions of naturally occurring compounds such as peptides, nucleic acids, polysaccharides, and secondary metabolites of small molecules;
- Research on the development of agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals that control environmental stress responses associated with climate change, allergic substances, infection, and aging, and their utilization in social applications.

The appointee will join the teaching staff of the Program of Applied Biosciences in the School of Agriculture and the Molecular Biosciences course in the Graduate School of Bioresource and Bioenvironmental Sciences.
Educational Duties:
The successful candidate will be expected to teach the following subjects and supervise research activities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels using Japanese, with some of the teaching and supervision also done in English.

Wages description: In addition to the basic annual salary, various allowances, bonuses (twice a year), and commuting expenses will be paid according to the university's regulations.

Tenure-Track Period and Examinations:
This tenure-track position is for a five-year term from the date of appointment. Mid-term (Second-year) and final (fifth-year) evaluations will be conducted according to the specified criteria. The successful candidate who fulfills the criteria will be employed as a permanent Assistant Professor. If outstanding results are achieved, promotion to a permanent Associate Professor will be considered. During the tenure-track period, more than 80% of working time may be devoted to research activities.
