Assistant Professor (WOT) - Sports Medicine Service - UW Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at the University of Washington has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time orthopaedic surgeon fellowship trained in sports medicine. This Assistant Professor position will initially be based full-time at the University of Washington with the expectation of a split position at Seattle Veterans Administration Medical Center in the future. The majority of time will be dedicated to UW Medicine. Responsibilities could include resident, medical student and education, and clinical or basic research. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a busy clinical practice focused on sports medicine and surgery as well as a robust program in clinical research, the study of educational methodologies, or basic science research.
The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor WOT (without tenure) rank depending on qualifications. The majority of School of Medicine faculty hired in the professorial track are hired under the WOT designation. Faculty appointed WOT have the same rights, responsibilities and obligations as tenure-track and tenured faculty members at those ranks. However, faculty appointed as WOT do not hold tenure because all or part of their annual University-administered salary is derived from sources other than regularly appropriated stated funds. This position has a flexible start date in the summer or fall of 2026. Assistant Professors (WOT) are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
