About Division of Integrative Systems and Design
The Division aspires to nurture a new generation of innovators who can work across multiple disciplines and create disruptive innovations. The vision of ISD is to 1) provide state-of-the-art project-based experiential learning in education and 2) be a cradle for nurturing innovators and researchers with a design and system thinking mindset as well as an entrepreneurial spirit. The Division provides comprehensive teaching and research programs in integrated design and systems thinking. The academic degrees offered by ISD are a BSc in Innovation, Design and Technology, a MSc in Technology Leadership & Entrepreneurship, a MPhil degree in Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship and a PhD and MPhil programs in Integrative Systems and Design. We are expanding rapidly and looking to broaden into disciplines such as sports, marine technology and medical technology.
We are seeking an Assistant Research Engineer to support student-focused innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives within the TLE (Technology Learning and Entrepreneurship) and MEng in Design Innovation programs. This role emphasizes hands-on engagement with student teams and the development of training ecosystems for entrepreneurial learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage TLE projects and coordinate student project teams.
- Organize and deliver developmental and training activities for entrepreneurial students across TLE and TIE programs.
- Liaise with external incubators and accelerators to support student ventures.
- Mentor student teams in the design and development of MVPs and functional prototypes.
- Contribute to the development of structured learning materials for experiential education.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- MPhil/MSc degree; or Bachelor’s degree with at least 1 year’s post-qualification experience in R&D or equivalent
- Experience working with student-led innovation or startup programs.
- Familiarity with incubation, acceleration, or venture-building environments.
- Strong communication and mentoring skills.
Requirements
- Broad experience in entrepreneurship, innovation, or startup ecosystems.
- Strong technical background in robotics, artificial intelligence, and embedded systems.
- Proven ability to guide student teams in product development and prototyping.
- Ability to design and deliver training materials in an experiential learning context.
