Job Description

The Finance Business Partner (FBP) supports the financial sustainability and strategic objectives of the School/College through robust financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, fund management, and business partnering. The role provides actionable financial insights to support operational and strategic decision-making, ensures strong financial governance, and drives process improvement in collaboration with stakeholders and central Finance.

Key Responsibilities

Budgeting, Planning & Monitoring

  • Prepare annual budgets, periodic forecasts, and long-term financial projections.
  • Evaluate current and future fiscal conditions and assess financial implications on strategic goals.
  • Monitor departmental expenditures to ensure alignment with management directives and fiscal discipline.
  • Provide scenario analysis and financial simulations to support planning and decision-making.

Fund & Resource Planning

  • Plan, review, and optimize resource allocation to support operating and capital budget requirements.
  • Monitor overall cash flow and liquidity position.
  • Respond to unbudgeted operating or capital expenditure through resource reallocation and/or fund liquidation.
  • Propose investment, redemption, and liquidation of funds where appropriate.

Financial & Management Reporting

  • Prepare timely and accurate management reports to inform stakeholders at various levels.
  • Liaise with NUS Office of Finance on accounting matters, quarterly reporting, balance sheet matters, and cash management.
  • Translate financial data into clear insights to support effective decision-making by senior management.

Business Partnering & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as a trusted finance partner to the Dean, department heads, and key stakeholders.
  • Provide financial insights through regular engagement sessions to support financial sustainability.
  • Advise stakeholders on finance-related policies, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Support operational and strategic initiatives through financial advisory, modelling, and analysis.

Process Improvement and Productivity

  • Identify opportunities for process reengineering and productivity gains to enhance efficiency and stakeholder satisf
