Job Description
The Assistant Supervisor for the Utility Team will be responsible for overseeing the university's utility team in the Supervisor's absence. This position ensures timely and efficient completion of special setups for numerous campus functions, moving of equipment and furniture and completion of all assigned work orders.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Coordinate with the Utility Team Supervisor and Office of Facilities Management to oversee the daily workflow.
- Partner with leadership to identify talent gaps, assign work orders, and maintain weekly U-Team schedules.
- Ensure the proper, safe, and efficient use of materials, equipment, and vehicles belonging to the University U-Team Department.
- Demonstrate proper safety and procedures in campus set-ups and furniture and equipment moves.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure the timely and efficient completion of special setups for the numerous campus functions, moving of equipment and furniture, and the proper completion of all assigned work orders.
- Perform all assigned setups and moves, as well as all other assigned tasks, under the direction of the U-Team Supervisor.
- Ensure the proper and efficient use and maintenance of all issued materials, tools, and equipment belonging to the university.
- During winter months, sweep snow and ice from doorways, sidewalks, and pathways next to assigned buildings, and other areas where assistance in snow and ice removal is needed.
- Perform construction cleanup or demolition as needed.
- Ensure that assigned University vehicles are kept clean, and all maintenance problems are properly reported.
- Report all maintenance-related items to supervisor.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisory staff, within the scope of this job description, and individual training and experience.
- Have the flexibility to work in areas outside your assigned areas of responsibility, as directed by the supervisor.
Required Education and Experience
- A High School education, or equivalent (GED), is requested. However, the education requirement may be substituted by work experience, at the discretion of the Director of Facilities Management. However, the applicant must have either a High School equivalent education or at least 6 months of previous work experience.
- Applicant must possess the ability to learn new skills as required and be able to work with minimal or no supervision, individually or in a team setting.
- Applicant must possess a valid driver's license and have an MVR that passes the criteria set by our insurance carriers.
- Applicant must possess a willingness to learn and the ability to perform the physical demands of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in a similar role is preferred.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Exposure to potentially hazardous materials is possible. Occasionally, you may need to handle and transport items weighing more than 50 pounds. Must be comfortable working at heights above twelve feet and performing minor electrical repairs.
