Pay Range: $67,000 - $72,000
Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months salary unless otherwise specified.

Job Description:
The Setnor School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor - Voice, to begin Fall 2026. This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track appointment, with an initial three-year term and the possibility of renewal. The successful candidate will be an accomplished artist who is dedicated to teaching applied voice and related courses. Candidates must demonstrate a record of sustained excellence in musicianship through vocal performance and university-level teaching; the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students; experience recruiting and teaching outstanding undergraduate and graduate students; and a growing regional to national profile as a singer and pedagogue. Responsibilities include teaching applied voice lessons, directing the Opera Workshop program, and teaching diction, and related courses, as well as related duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Music.
A terminal degree (Doctorate or ABD) is preferred. The chosen candidate will be expected to be an active member of the Setnor community, serving on various university, college, and school committees, participating in student recruitment, attending student performances, as well as other related duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Music. The committee also views a candidate's outside professional engagements as a performer to be an asset.
The school is particularly interested in candidates who have communication abilities and cross-cultural competencies to maximize their effectiveness with many different groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree (DMA or PhD) in Vocal Performance or a closely related field from an accredited institution, or commensurate professional experience at the very highest level.
- Significant experience in studio teaching.
- Significant performance experience as a soloist and/or ensemble member.
Job Specific Qualifications:
- Experience performing and teaching repertoire composed within the last 50 years.
- Ability to utilize and implement new pedagogies and classroom strategies to advance comprehensive learning opportunities with a commitment to 21st-Century vocal pedagogy.
- Artist-scholar with a developing national profile, with promise toward an international profile.
- Ability to develop strategies in defining and supporting the future direction of the vocal music program and the School of Music.
- A record of successful recruiting.
- Organizational and leadership abilities.
Responsibilities:
- Teach applied voice lessons to graduate and undergraduate students.
- Direct Opera Workshop.
- Teach diction classes.
- Other teaching within candidates area of expertise as assigned by the Director.
- Maintain active expertise in the field of vocal performance and pedagogy.
- Serve on committees in the School, College, and University.
- Recruitment, program development, community outreach.
