Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of University Counsel (OUC) represents the University, which entails providing legal advice and counsel to the Board of Trustees, the Chancellor, the administration, faculty, and staff on legal matters involving or affecting the institution.
Position Summary
The Assistant University Counsel (Attorney) reports to the Office of University Counsel (OUC) and provides legal services to the University. The Attorney reviews, drafts, negotiates, and manages a variety of contracts and transactional documents, including services agreements, non-disclosure agreements, software licenses, information technology agreements, consulting agreements, property-related agreements, executive search firm agreements, performance and speaker agreements, exhibition and equipment loan agreements, digital education contracts, revenue-generating arrangements, and other related agreements. The position also provides legal support to Procurement Services, including advising on state procurement laws, strategic sourcing and vendor management, and other aspects of procurement operations.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with three years or greater of related professional experience; for candidates demonstrating comparable professional backgrounds, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and five years or greater of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited school of law.
- Be a licensed attorney in good standing in North Carolina or able to become one within one year of joining the University.
- A minimum of two years of relevant legal experience.
