Assistant Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness and Deputy Chief of Staff
PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Assistant Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness and Deputy Chief of Staff reports to the Vice President, General Counsel, Chief of Staff and Board Secretary, supervises the Office of Institutional Research, leads institutional effectiveness efforts, oversees institutional data governance, serves as the institutional accreditation officer, and assists the VP/Chief of Staff with implementation of the President's agenda and priorities.
This role is responsible for leading institutional effectiveness efforts with the goal of continuous improvement; developing and maintaining institutional key performance indicators; assuring effective and appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes, student experience and satisfaction; and overseeing the establishment and maintenance of consistent data definitions, documentation practices, and governance standards as part of an overall data governance strategy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment
- Design, implement, and oversee an institutional effectiveness framework aligned with the Strategic Plan, institutional priorities, and recommendations from accrediting bodies and others.
- Develop and maintain key performance indicators, strategic plan metrics, and outcome-tracking across divisions.
- Advise senior leadership on data-informed strategy, resource allocation, and organizational improvement.
- Assure that the three schools at Lewis & Clark engage in effective and appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes, student experience and satisfaction, through a combination of leadership and collaboration with deans, faculty and staff in each of the schools.
- Partner with departments to interpret assessment results and translate findings into improvement actions.
Institutional Research and Data Governance
- Supervise the Institutional Research team, ensuring high-quality data analysis and institutional support as the college's authoritative source for institutional data, reporting, and analysis.
- Lead efforts to establish and maintain consistent data definitions, documentation practices, and governance standards, working with campus partners, as part of an overall data governance strategy to maintain data integrity across systems. This includes collaboration with partners across campus, such as Information Technology, Finance, Enrollment, Financial Aid, Registration and Student Success.
Accreditation and Compliance
- Serve as the lead for institutional accreditation processes and liaison with institutional accrediting bodies.
- Oversee the implementation of recommendations resulting from institutional accreditation or similar external review processes, with a goal of continuous institutional improvement.
- Oversee and coordinate reporting to federal, state, and institutional accrediting bodies.
- Ensure compliance with reporting requirements from agencies such as state higher education authorities and the U.S. Department of Education.
- Standardize reporting practices to eliminate redundancy and improve accuracy.
Deputy Chief of Staff
- Support the Chief of Staff in advancing the President's agenda and priorities through the coordinated implementation of initiatives aligned with the Strategic Plan.
- Serve as a liaison among administrators, faculty members, external partners, and others working on implementing strategic priorities.
- Lead or support communications related to strategic planning and institutional initiatives.
- Provide or oversee assessment and data analytics in support of the President's agenda and priorities.
- Work as a collaborative member of the President's Office staff.
