Kenyon College invites applications for the position of Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach. This is a full time, 10-month reporting position with benefits. Under the general direction of the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach, this coach will be responsible for assisting in all facets of the NCAA D-III Women’s Volleyball program in accordance and compliance with NCAA, NCAC, and Kenyon College policies and regulations.
The Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach contributes to success in the following areas: recruiting qualified student-athletes, ensuring a positive student-athlete experience, day-to-day operations, and successful and positive coaching of the volleyball student-athletes. Additional responsibilities will be assigned in game management, teaching, and/or administration.
Essential Functions:
- Mentor student athletes.
- Coach athletes on both offense and defense. Advise and instruct student-athletes on skill development in all position groups.
- Assist with planning and conducting practices, training sessions, and match-day Coaching.
- Provide technical instruction and skill development for student-athletes.
- Teach the basic fundamentals of the game using a skill set that will complement the head coach’s.
- Provide opportunities for captains and players to become scholars of the game of volleyball.
- Represent Kenyon College always in a positive and enthusiastic light.
- Lead and assist with designated departmental, divisional, and/or College committees, initiatives and processes.
- Develop meaningful connections with students, staff and faculty by being available and visible on campus.
- Recruit academically and athletically strong applicants for admission in the selective, highly competitive application pool at Kenyon College utilizing ARMS software, including preparing promotional materials.
- Work in conjunction with athletic trainers to maintain student-athlete welfare.
- Stay up-to-date with sport and coaching best practices in order to provide opportunities for all involved in the program to become students of the game by sharing knowledge of the sport.
- All coaches are assigned additional duties in the areas of event /game management and teaching. These responsibilities are determined annually by Game / Event Manager, Facility Manager(s) and Director of Athletics, Fitness and Recreation.
Other Expectations:
Serve as a member of the Athletics, Fitness and Recreation team, responsible for providing leadership, goals, and program implementation at a fully residential campus housing 1800 undergraduate students. Develop and maintain mutually supportive and collaborative working relationships with student affairs colleagues, faculty, and other campus partners to accomplish shared objectives and tasks. Demonstrate a commitment to and compliance with the College’s and Department of Athletics, Fitness and Recreation policies and procedures as well as the North Coast Athletic Conference and NCAA constitutions, bylaws, legislation and regulations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. Demonstrated experience instructing on the rules and fundamentals of the sport. Collegiate playing experience. CPR, First Aid and AED Certification is required (and can be completed after hire).
