Assistant/Associate Professor of Medical Education (Health System Science)

The Department of Medical Education at the UTRGV School Of Medicine (UTRGV SOM) in Edinburg, TX seeks a highly qualified faculty member to lead and teach Health System Science primarily within the pre-clerkship curricular years of the MD program. The candidate will develop and manage the module during the pre-clerkship curriculum. Candidates should have a desire and flexibility to integrate instruction across other disciplines within a fully integrated curriculum. All candidates with an enthusiasm for teaching and those with prior teaching experience in a health profession related environment are encouraged to apply; however, prior teaching experience in an LCME-accredited medical school would be considered preferred.

This position will be responsible for teaching, developing, and implementing Health System Science in medical school curriculum which encompasses key areas related to healthcare, systems thinking, epidemiology, quality improvement in healthcare, patient safety, social determinants of health, population health, global health, statistics and health policy.

This position has a full-time instructional mandate, and the recruited candidate must be committed to excellence in the teaching and mentoring of first- and second-year medical students, in addition to teaching within other graduate programs offered by the School of Medicine.

Minimum Qualifications: Terminal doctoral degree (MD, DO, PhD, MD/PhD, Doctor of Public Health, or equivalent) with specific training/experience in health systems science or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualification: Demonstrable expertise in Health System Science. Prior teaching experience in an LCME-accredited medical school. One (1) year of experience with curriculum development in undergraduate medical education and/or health systems science in higher education.
