Description
The University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health (SH) Division of Infectious Diseases, in conjunction with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, is seeking an Academic Infectious Diseases Physician with interest in Oncology Infectious Diseases in the Clinician Investigator track. The successful applicant must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment as a Clinician at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor within the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. The effective start date is January 1, 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter.
A physician with excellent critical thinking and research record is being sought to support the Oncology Infectious Diseases program while advancing knowledge acquisition/translation and clinical care in infectious diseases at the University of Toronto, Division of Infectious Diseases. The candidate must have interest and expertise in managing infectious complications of oncologic and malignant hematologic diagnoses, as well as infections following solid organ transplantation and cell therapies. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the inpatient Oncology Infectious Disease consultation services, with possible coverage of the Transplant Infectious Diseases consultation service. They will contribute to infectious diseases ambulatory care clinics, and contribute to teaching of trainees. They will report to the Division Head of UHN/SH Infectious Diseases, with direct supervision from the Director of Transplant and Oncology Infectious Diseases.
The successful candidate will be based at the Toronto General Hospital (200 Elizabeth Street, Toronto ON) and may cover other UHN sites such as Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (610 University Avenue, Toronto ON), as well as Sinai Health – Mount Sinai Hospital (600 University Avenue, Toronto ON). The candidate will have office space located in the Toronto General Hospital Infectious Diseases Administrative Area, 13 Eaton North, 200 Elizabeth Street, Toronto ON M5G 2C4.
The successful candidate must hold an MD degree, have or be eligible for certification in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Infectious Diseases, and have, or be eligible for, licensure in Ontario. An advanced thesis-based degree (Masters or Ph.D.) or equivalent in health research is required, and candidates are required to have specialized clinical training or experience in transplant and oncology infectious disease. A proven record of scholarly achievements in the form of research grants and peer-reviewed publications is an asset. The ideal candidate must have the potential to enhance the existing research portfolio in infectious diseases of the immunocompromised host through clinical research. Particular areas of interest to the group include infections in hematopoietic stem cell transplant and oncology patients (viral infections and vaccines) and drug resistant bacterial and fungal infections including novel therapies. The candidate must be able to communicate proficiently in English.
For the successful candidate, compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be competitive with the usual income range for an academic ID clinician in the province of Ontario, with a compensation no less than $300,000 per year, which is partially determined by fee for service. The Oncology ID Physician will participate in the UHN/SH Department of Medicine practice plan. A health benefits package is available through the practice plan.
