Assistant/Associate Professor of Teacher Education - Literacy Education
Job Description
Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Teacher Education - Literacy Education to start August 1, 2026. The Assistant/Associate Professor will contribute to program development and academic leadership. Qualified candidates may be considered for program director or department chair responsibilities.
Candidates should be able to teach literacy methods courses, particularly courses with a focus on emergent literacy development, and content literacy courses with a focus on reading to learn. Candidate should be prepared to teach foundational literacy courses addressing phonics, phonemic awareness, and evidence-based early reading instruction.
Primary Responsibilities
- Teach 24 credits per academic year, which amounts to four courses per semester.
- Teach lower- and upper-level courses in Teacher Education and Literacy in a variety of formats.
- Fulfill service obligations to the School of Education, Nevada State University, our local community as well as the discipline-specific professional community.
- Serve on departmental and college-wide committees.
- Engage in scholarly activity within your discipline or in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education or a related field (Candidates who are ABD will be considered with the expectation that the Ph.D. or Ed.D. will be completed by July 31, 2026).
- At least three (3) years teaching literacy in a K-5 setting.
- Certification or eligibility for certification in Nevada.
