Position Description
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) is seeking an accomplished, visionary physician-leader to serve as Chief of the Division of Hematology & Oncology in the Department of Internal Medicine. This candidate will also serve as the Medical Director of the University Medical Center (UMC) TLC² Foundation Cancer Center.

- UMC is a 500-bed public, academic medical center with a catchment area and resulting influx of 9,400 transfers from 157 counties across 260,000 square miles, the only Level I Trauma Center between Dallas and Albuquerque, the only verified Burn Center between Dallas and Phoenix, and the primary teaching hospital of TTUHSC. Together, they anchor a rapidly expanding cancer enterprise serving West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.

The selected leader will assume a significant leadership role, anchored by UMC’s new 124,000 sq. ft. comprehensive academic cancer center, which opened on April 20th, 2026. The center features:
- Advanced radiation oncology
- Infusion & chemotherapy services

- Two pharmacies – dedicated infusion pharmacy and specialty pharmacy

- Clinical trials, Phase I-III, infrastructure

Leadership must be visionary as both UMC and TTUHSC strive to impact cancer care for more than 3 million people across West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. in alignment with TTUHSC’s Rural Cancer Collaborative efforts.
Major/Essential Functions
- Provide strategic, clinical, academic, and operational leadership for the Division, the Center, and the service line.
- Continue development of a premier multidisciplinary oncology program recognized regionally.
- Direct multi-disciplinary clinical services, spanning pediatric through adult, inclusive of surgery, radiation oncology, palliative care, and additional subspecialties, toward a team-oriented, patient-focused program.
- Increase clinical trials (Phase I–III) and strengthen collaborations with NCI-, DoD-, CPRIT-funded researchers, cooperative groups, and industry-sponsored trials.
- Advance academic scholarship efforts while increasing extramural funding.
- Retain, recruit, mentor, and develop Hematology/Oncology faculty.
- Advise and provide oversight of the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program.
- Lead as a practitioner, engage in direct patient care through ongoing clinical practice, inclusive of supervision and teaching.
