As part of the strategic initiatives, The University of Sydney Business School is seeking to appoint an Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander individual to the role of Associate Dean (Indigenous Strategy and Services). This pivotal appointment signifies our dedication to Indigenous self-determination through academic leadership and aligns with our goal of integrating First Nations perspectives and experiences into our educational and research endeavours for societal impact.
The key responsibilities for this position include contributing to the academic activities of the Business School through teaching and research and leading the implementation of First Nations Strategic Initiatives by increasing the numbers of First Nations students and staff, enhancing cultural competence, and Indigenising the curriculum. The role also involves developing the Business School's profile and relationships by fostering connections with the First Nations business sector and communities through collaborative programs and strategic engagement.
Additionally, the position requires chairing the University of Sydney Business School Indigenous Strategy and Services committee, contributing to key committees, and supporting broader university First Nations strategies. The individual in this role must collaborate and build positive working relationships with other Associate Deans and work as part of the leadership team to improve the school's cultural competence.
About you (skills, capabilities and experience)
This position has been designated for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people only under the provisions of section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
The successful candidate will hold a (PhD) and identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
You will have:
- a network of established relationships with key Indigenous communities, industry and professional and academic institutions.
- an understanding of governance, policy and compliance frameworks and the ability to translate strategy into operational plans and processes.
- have experience in people leadership and management ideally within the higher education/ knowledge worker sector or large complex organisations.
Term and remuneration
The Associate Dean (Indigenous Strategy and Services) will serve as a three-year fixed-term position with the option for extension for further 2 years, accompanied by a continuing teaching and research position at Professor (Level E) or an Associate Professor Level (Level D) depending on your scholarship track record.
The successful candidate will be offered an attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
