Associate Dean - Rusche College of Business

JOB DESCRIPTION

This is a full-time, twelve-month, faculty position responsible for performing professional duties related to the operation of the College of Business. Responsible for supporting the development and continual improvement of college programs; providing administrative oversight of college budgets, classrooms, facilities, and operations; and providing support to academic units for accreditation and assessment processes and reports. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the dean.

QUALIFICATIONS

Terminal degree in an academic discipline tenurable within the college.

Sufficient experience to warrant a tenure-track appointment in one of the disciplines within the college. Strong record of research and other scholarly achievements is required. Experience in academic administration is preferred. Experience working with AACSB accreditation is preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Aids in the performance of executive duties related to the operations of the college.
  2. Provides leadership and oversight of the development and continual improvement of programs to raise the quality of teaching and learning, to encourage faculty service, professional growth, and creative/scholarly work, and to promote the cultural and intellectual growth of the campus community.
  3. Ensures college compliance with university requirements for syllabi, faculty vita and credentials, and student evaluation and instruction.
  4. Provides leadership and coordination of accreditation activities. Coordinates the assessment activities of the college by working with the chairs/directors and academic program coordinators to plan for, develop, gather, analyze, and form responses to the assessment of student learning outcomes and to ensure that university and accrediting association expectations are met.
  5. Collects and maintains data and prepares reports regarding the general operation and evaluation of programs and activities related to area of responsibility.
  6. Oversees and monitors college budgets.
  7. Oversees the general operations of the Dean’s Office. Assists in administering college personnel functions, including assisting academic units with the development of vacancy postings and contributing to decisions on hiring, terminations, and employment changes.
  8. Supervises the faculty professional development fund awarding process.
  9. Reviews requests from academic units for student activities and travel and part-time and short-term graduate assistant staff; makes awards and staffing assignments as appropriate.
  10. Oversees the use, maintenance, renovation, and repair of the college’s classrooms and facilities. Liaises with third party contractors, vendors, and the physical plant department as appropriate.
  11. Serves as ex-officio member on assigned college committees.
  12. Represents the college at college, university, and community events.
  13. Supervises assigned staff.
  14. Assumes signatory authority for the college in the dean’s absence.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Participates in recruitment and retention activities, as appropriate.
  2. Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or, using some other form of skills and abilities, be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university and college policies and procedures.
  2. Knowledge of Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accreditation standards.
  3. Ability to receive a tenure-track appointment in one of the disciplines within the college.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
  5. Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, and constituents.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  7. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
  8. Ability to develop objectives, evaluate effectiveness and assess needs.
  9. Ability to develop, interpret, and evaluate policies and procedures.
  10. Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget.
  11. Ability to supervise and train others.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANT

The preferred start date for this position is September 1, 2026; however, consideration may be given to a January 1, 2027 start date.
