Associate Director, Athletics Communications (Women's Basketball)
Position Description
Plan and develop daily business functions for various departments within the athletic organization. Ensure the athletic organization maintains a favorable public and stakeholder perception while fulfilling the organization's strategic mission.
Major/Essential Functions
- Develop and manage publicity for the Lady Raider Basketball program as well as another sport(s) as assigned.
- Write, research, compile, and edit various athletic department communications materials, including press releases, game notes, game programs, social media content, and feature articles for sports as assigned.
- Coordinate gameday operations, press conferences, and supervise gameday staff for assigned sports.
- Assist in overall maintenance and upkeep of athletic department website (www.texastech.com) with a specific focus on assigned sports.
- Maintain and update record books, as well as student-athlete and coach biographies, in a timely manner. Manage and preserve statistical archives-both current and historical-for assigned sports.
- Serve as social media contact for assigned sports. Contribute to the department's social media communication efforts.
- Contribute to departmental strategic planning for athletics communications. Build and sustain strong working relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
- Oversee the hiring and training of all student employees and interns, setting weekly and monthly schedules to ensure events and office functions are fully staffed.
- Manage all host responsibilities regarding television and media members.
- Collaborate with creative video, graphic design, marketing, and digital teams to ensure cohesive storytelling across all platforms. This also includes external groups that promote Texas Tech Athletics and its revenue functions, including the Red Raider Club and external NIL.
- Promote student-athletes and coaches for various national, regional, and conference awards.
- Provide media training, interview preparation, and public relations guidance to coaches and student-athletes, serving as the point person in this area for assigned sports.
- Assist with crisis communications and high-profile situations as needed.
- Travel with women's basketball for all regular season and postseason games and with other assigned sport(s) to postseason events as needed.
- Comply with all NCAA, Big 12, and Texas Tech rules, regulations, and policies.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field plus three years related experience; OR a combination of related education and/or experience to equal seven years.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, sports management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in athletics communications, media relations, sports information, or a related field, preferably at the NCAA Division I level.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills with experience producing press releases, game notes, feature stories, and digital/social media content.
- Experience serving as a communications contact for collegiate athletics programs, preferably basketball or another high-profile sport.
- Knowledge of athletics statistics, record keeping, media operations, and website/content management systems such as SIDEARM Sports.
- Demonstrated understanding of social media strategy, digital communications, and audience engagement across multiple platforms.
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with media members, coaches, student-athletes, and external partners.
