Job Details
Under the general guidance of the Executive Director, Institute on Public Safety and Social Justice (IPSSJ) the Associate Director is responsible for providing a broad range of support and supervision to Institute on Public Safety and Social Justice (IPSSJ). Including oversight of, financial and programmatic compliance, staff resources as well as research assistance. The associate director will also be principally responsible for sourcing, funding and managing reporting of funds.
Education/Experience:
- Masters degree required. Ph.D preferred in social science field.
- At least 7 years experience working at a non-profit institution and at least three of the seven years in administration (including grants administration).
- Extensive knowledge of finance management in higher education preferred
- Restorative justice training preferred.

- Proficient with a variety of technology platforms, and MS Office (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and to handle sensitive information.
- Demonstrated understanding of carceral systems, including their structure, impact on individuals and communities, and implications for clinical, educational, or organizational practice
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership and Program Development (30%)
- Assist in developing and implementing plans and goals for the department
- Develop and manage new and existing projects
- Track project performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of goals
- Develop strategic programming and opportunities
- Oversees and reports weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual metrics
Fundraising (30%)
- Oversee grant funding efforts including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements
- Oversee fundraising database and tracking systems
- Supervise and collaborate with other fundraising staff
- Ensure timely and accurate report deliveries to funders
Financial Management (20%)
- Assist in budgeting and monitoring expenses
- Meet project budgetary objectives and make adjustments to project constraints based on financial analysis
- Meet departmental financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing annual budgets, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions
- Identifying and developing new opportunities with the Executive Director, team members and other community stakeholders.
- Manage staff levels, wages, hours, and contract labor to revenue
Administration and Operations (15%)
- Works with the Executive Director to coordinate and supervise daily operations
- Ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies
- Undertake staffing responsibilities (hiring, trainings, evaluating, etc.)
- Collaborates with other back-office team members to ensure seamless business execution
- Works closely with management team to ensure all operational, administrative, and compliance functions within the department are properly executed.
Additional Duties as Assigned (5%)
Work Environment (Physical Demands):
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Salary Range: $70,000.00 - $95,000.00
