JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Career Success and External Relations, the Associate Director of Internship Services will facilitate and manage Internship activities.
The Associate Director will maintain a very close, collaborative working relationship with the ED and Center Units, Department Chairs and Alumni to ensure that there is a seamless process for students participating in internships. The AD will be responsible for making recommendations for program development as related to the Center's overall mission, and management of programs, pertaining to internship and mentoring services provided to students.
The goal is to develop a model college internship program in which an increasing number of students will have opportunities for quality experiential education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities Include:
- Manage the Internship program, posting positions and providing guidance to employers and students to promote hiring.
- Monitors current internship sites and acts as liaison supervisor for the Career Success team of student employees, including timesheet approval and payroll monitoring.
- Assist in attracting and compiling applicants for various internships from a pool of primed students.
- Provides leadership in the development and implementation of viable internship programs.
- Works alongside faculty, academic departments, alumni, and other constituencies to identify, define, and meet student career planning and internship needs, goals and objectives.
- Lead workshops and information sessions for students, alumni, and employers.
- Support Front Desk operations and Career Success Events.
- Communicates regularly with other designated contacts within the Center, Unit, Division and University.
- Seeks and develops internship resources for students, faculty and employers and maintain them on the website, Handshake, and other platforms.
- Maintains resources and information to include but is not limited to, topics such as internship preparation, academic credit, etc.
- Research experiential education programs and develop job shadowing, mentorship, and other externship opportunities.
- Research internship opportunities, appropriate websites and resources to support Internship Services.
- Assist in program planning, counseling students and conducting workshops to include, but is not limited to internship preparation, resume reviews, job searches, mock interviews, and mentoring activities.
- Provides classroom and organization presentations.
- Assists in developing an internship manual and promotional material and updates as needed.
- Develops strong, collegial relationships with industry partners and alumni to ensure students have a strong resource pool for job shadowing and internship opportunities.
- Facilitates student learning by assisting students in securing appropriate internships to enhance overall academic experience and learn skills essential to conduct a successful job search.
- Maintains database for the purposes of tracking and assessing the effectiveness of the internship program.
- Conducts site visits to evaluate appropriateness and relevance of internships for students.
- Supports other internship and job development activities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree or a comparable level of experience in a related field.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, customer focus, and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated skills in managing events, program management, and problem-solving.
- Professional demeanor when interacting with internal and external constituents, including employers, students, alums, staff, faculty, and trustees.
- Technical proficiency including Microsoft Office/mail merge/databases.
- Experience working with CRM tools and data management systems; knowledge of HANDSHAKE.
- Commitment to principles of community and diversity and the desire to effectively and consistently relate to a diverse student population.
- Ability to handle confidential information professionally.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is primarily performed in a university campus environment and requires a flexible scheduling including some evening and weekend work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Moderate lifting up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, and bend and reach.
