Associate Director of Graduate Entry Medical Studies

Applications are invited for the office of Associate Director of Graduate Entry Medical Studies within the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Oxford. This is an exciting and interesting opportunity to play an important role as part of the senior management team for the programme. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will begin work at the start of September 2026.

The postholder will have primary responsibility for overseeing the clinical course (clinical placements and associated teaching) in Years 1 and 2, but will also have a number of additional responsibilities in support of the programme. The time commitment associated with the role is on average 1.5 days per week (or three programmed activities). To align with programme requirements, applicants must be available to work at least one of the programmed activities on a Friday and ideally also a Tuesday.

Applicants may be clinically active but applications from non-clinicians who have a good understanding of the delivery of medical education will be considered. The appointment will be offered for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of re-appointment following review for one further period, of three years’ duration. There will be a probationary period of one year.

The successful applicant will be currently employed in a University departmental academic or clinical post, or employed at Consultant or GP level within the NHS. They will have up-to-date knowledge of current medical educational issues and substantive experience that would be of assistance in dealing with at least some of these. They will have the ability to establish excellent relationships with the medical student body and with individual medical students, and will have the ability to command the confidence of a broad range of University and NHS staff members. They will have experience of delivering high-quality teaching and assessment to medical students, and will have knowledge and experience of curriculum development and delivery within undergraduate education.
