Associate Lecturer - Multivariable Calculus
Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking an Associate Lecturer to join the teaching team and support the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences this Autumn 2026.
We have an opportunity for an Associate Lecturer for a 2nd year undergraduate module in Multivariable Calculus, teaching from October - December, on Wednesdays 6-9pm.
You will contribute to teaching and supporting students in advanced calculus, including multivariable differentiation, multiple integration, and differential equations.
You will have an excellent grasp of university-level mathematics and experience guiding students through rigorous analytical problem-solving. Previous teaching or academic experience covering partial differentiation applications (e.g. extrema, Lagrange multipliers, Taylor polynomials), advanced integration techniques (e.g. non-rectangular regions, polar coordinates), and 1st-order ordinary differential equations is highly desirable.
Essential requirements for this role are:
- A strong academic foundation in multivariable calculus and differential equations
- The ability to clearly explain complex theoretical concepts and support mathematical problem-solving
- Excellent communication and organisational skills

Remuneration:
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College, starting rate £69.68 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay, for contact hours worked.
This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
