Associate Prof of Government

Faculty are essential to Liberty University’s mission of Training Champions for Christ. Faculty should view their teaching, engagement with students, and scholarship as a means to a significant educational end. They should strive to employ a variety of techniques for the development of good learning conditions, view each student as a unique individual, and insofar as it is possible, provide for individual differences, abilities, and interests.

The Associate Professor’s primary role is to teach in their areas of expertise, maintain the integrity of course and instructional programs, and ensure alignment with the University’s mission and vision for the student experience.

This position supports undergraduate instruction across foundational and intermediate courses in government, international relations, and national security. The role emphasizes applied instruction informed by professional experience in intelligence, defense, and national security contexts.

The successful candidate will bring substantial real-world experience to the classroom and prepare students for careers in intelligence, defense, federal service, and national security sectors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Government, Intelligence Studies, National Security, Political Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in a relevant discipline.
  • Significant professional experience in national security, intelligence, military, or related government service.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses in American government, international relations, or national security.
  • Evidence of effective teaching or instructional experience.

Preferred / Other Qualifications

  • Senior-level leadership experience in national security, intelligence, or military operations.
  • Demonstrated professional network within intelligence or defense communities.
  • Experience mentoring students toward intelligence or national security careers.
  • Ability to integrate real-world operational insight into teaching.
  • Experience teaching high-enrollment or general education courses.
  • Ability to connect course content to current geopolitical developments.
