Associate Software Product Manager
Job Description
As an Associate Software Product Manager at WGU, you will help shape products that support students from their first interaction through the start of their academic journey. You will partner closely with experienced product managers while working across engineering, UX, marketing, and enrollment to turn ideas into meaningful product experiences.
You will join a team within Student Life Cycle Services (SLS), focused on improving the online-to-enrollment journey through a student's first day of class. This role is ideal for someone early in their product career who brings curiosity, analytical thinking, and a desire to grow into a high-impact Product Manager. You will be expected to build a strong foundation in outcome-driven product development, learning how to connect strategy to measurable results.
What You'll Do
- Support the full product development lifecycle including ideation, design, testing, documentation, and release activities
- Turn product vision and direction from senior product leaders into clear business requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria with guidance
- Collaborate with engineering, UX, marketing, and other stakeholders to build simple, effective solutions to complex problems
- Contribute to backlog refinement and prioritization while balancing stakeholder needs and product value
- Help define user flows, support mockups, and ensure alignment across cross-functional teams
- Participate in QA, user acceptance testing, and release readiness to ensure high-quality outcomes
- Use data and feedback to help evaluate product performance and confirm problems are effectively solved
What You'll Bring
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1 year of relevant experience as a product manager, product owner, or related role
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in measuring success through outcomes
- Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and build strong working relationships
- Comfort working in ambiguity and adapting to evolving priorities
- Clear communication skills with the ability to translate ideas into structured requirements
- Familiarity with tools such as Jira and Microsoft Office; exposure to AI tools is a plus
Bonus Points
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- 3+ years of experience as a software product manager, product owner, or similar role
- Experience in education technology or mission-driven organizations
- Exposure to agile product development practices
