Associate Vice President and Executive Director of the Mays Center
Job Description
The Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Executive Director of the Mays Center for Experiential Learning and Community Engagement (AVPSA/Mays) provides vision, strategic direction, and accountability for academic transition and student success programs. This position oversees and assesses programs and services—including Experiential Learning, Civic Engagement, Workforce Development, and Career Services—that empower students to succeed academically and personally, thereby driving higher retention and graduation rates.
Responsibilities
- Supervises directors within the Mays Center: Experiential Learning, Civic Engagement, Workforce Development, and Career Services. Provides leadership for staff and student employees housed within the Mays Center.
- Oversees goals and objectives, budget development, resource management, program assessment and evaluation, and policies and procedures.
- Recruits external partners, including employers, and develops strategic partnerships to support the Mays mission and institutional initiatives.
- Develops priorities and goals that support students' experiential learning and career readiness.
- Works with senior administration and faculty to identify goals and implement strategy.
- Advises the Vice President for Student Affairs on institutional and divisional priorities.
- Coordinates the collection of data and other information to effectively assess the Student Affairs Division.
- Works with Student Affairs departments to enhance initiatives in career readiness and workforce development.
- Guides initiatives to enhance understanding of federal and state mandates and the accreditation process.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Ten (10) years of progressively responsible management experience, including some supervisory experience.
