Position Summary
The Associate Vice President of Advising and Transfer Enrollment Operations plays a critical role in collaborating with CT State leadership across all locations and offices-including advising, enrollment management, academic and student affairs, marketing, and institutional research-to ensure the delivery of high-quality, integrated programs and services that meet the diverse needs of all students. This position works closely with the Vice President of Enrollment Management to identify best practices, guide ongoing professional development and training, manage advising technology platforms, and develop responsive programs and procedures to address emerging transfer needs within CT State. The Associate Vice President also oversees transfer operations and college transcript services to support accurate, timely evaluation of student records and ensure seamless transfer processes. In addition, the role involves close collaboration with the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) system and private institutions to improve transfer outcomes and support clear, equitable pathways for student mobility. The position also collects and analyzes data and maintains compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Division of Enrollment Management to the VP of Enrollment Management, the Associate Vice President of Advising and Transfer Enrollment Operations is responsible for the Advising and Transfer Operations through effective performance in these essential duties:
- Leadership & Strategic Vision
- Provides strategic leadership and direct guidance to campus leadership across CT State on advising and transfer operations, ensuring consistency, regulatory compliance, and alignment with BOR, institutional, state, and national standards while fostering an equity-centered culture grounded in best practices and institutional data.
- Serves as Co-Chair of the Statewide Advising Council and represents the Division of Enrollment Management on internal and external committees, collaborating with Academic Affairs, campus partners, and external constituents to advance initiatives, policies, and transfer practices that strengthen student outcomes.
- Data & Reporting
- Collects, evaluates, and analyzes qualitative and quantitative data to develop statewide benchmarks, performance measures, and assessment metrics related to advising, retention, and transfer; produces reports and NECHE documentation for campus stakeholders, senior leadership, and Institutional Research to support data-driven decision-making and strategic planning.
- Cultivates and manages strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders - including higher education institutions, state agencies, community-based organizations, and local school districts - while collaborating across Enrollment Management, Academic Affairs, and Student Affairs to develop goals and strategies aligned with the CT State strategic plan.
- Professional Development & Training
- Serves as the institutional point person for Guided Pathways Advising and transfer-related initiatives, collaborating with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and the Director of Student Success Technology to support CRM training, professional development, and report writing across CT State.
- Develops and convenes professional development events and training opportunities for advising faculty and staff, and represents CT State by presenting on student success and academic advising initiatives at local, state, and national conferences.
- Compliance
- Ensures compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal policies and laws, including FERPA, while maintaining current knowledge of national best practices in advising, retention, and student success, and implementing technology platforms such as Banner, CRM Advise, and CRM Recruit to improve student engagement.
- Participates in key enrollment activities including recruitment, outreach, and student onboarding, while leading special initiatives and projects designed to improve student outcomes and strengthen local and national partnerships.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in education, counseling, student development, social work, enrollment management, or related field; with a minimum of seven years of higher education experience in advising, counseling, or related area.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Four (4) or more years' supervision experience in higher education, preferably academic advising
- Experience supervising and evaluating professional staff
- Experience developing and managing advising programs and services
- Experience leading cross-departmental projects/initiatives and conducting both qualitative and quantitative research
- Experience with data-driven decision making and strategic planning
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with multiple technologies such as student information systems, student success and academic advising platforms, digital imaging, reporting and database management, online registration services, etc.
- Experience with programs and strategies to support equitable advising outcomes for students from first-generation, low-income, non-traditional, minoritized, and marginalized communities
- Experience leading teams to deliver high-quality customer service
- Experience partnering with public and private high schools, higher education institutions, related outside agencies, and organizations
- Experience working with student success and academic advising technology platforms
- Experience designing and delivering professional development surrounding academic advising
- Experience overseeing multi-site advising programs
Salary and Benefits
Salary range; $140,721-$175,901 approximate annual
