Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management
Summary
Michigan Technological University is seeking an Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management for our Enrollment Management department. The Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management provides energetic, strategic, and collaborative leadership for undergraduate recruitment and admissions, university financial aid and scholarships, TRIO Pre-College Programs, and the Center for Educational Outreach. Reporting to the Vice President for University Relations and Enrollment, the AVPEM serves as a key strategic advisor on divisional priorities, operational effectiveness, enrollment strategy, and organizational planning.
The AVPEM will help advance and operationalize Michigan Tech’s distinctive high-touch approach to recruitment and education, one grounded in authentic human connection, personalized engagement, and a deeply immersive residential-based undergraduate experience. This on-campus position will work collaboratively with university leadership, the AVPEM will align enrollment initiatives, operational systems, and student experience strategies with institutional goals and long-term enrollment objectives.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
- Working with the vice president for University Relations and Enrollment, the AVPEM will provide leadership and strategic analysis in the development, oversight, and integration of all aspects of enrollment management including student recruitment goals.
- Create strategies and division-wide initiatives that effectively support the recruitment and retention of a diverse and inclusive student body in a manner that complements the University’s culture and core values.
- Lead the development of strategies that leverage financial-aid awards in a manner that enhances the overall student body and expands opportunities for timely degree attainment.
- Collaborate with deans and other academic leaders to produce short- and long-term enrollment goals and effective recruitment strategies aimed at optimizing enrollment.
- Develop strategies to engage faculty and other university personnel in the execution of enrollment initiatives opportunities in targeted programs.
- Provide comprehensive statistical and data-informed analyses necessary to make sound policy decisions supporting new enrollment markets while sustaining and growing existing markets. Analyze data and utilize predictive and statistical modeling to create and meet enrollment goals.
- Work collaboratively with the associate vice president of University Marketing and Communications to establish and implement marketing objectives and plans.
- Analyze relevant data and market trends to inform planning, decision-making, reporting, and management. Keeps each school and college informed of trends and shifts in area demographics.
- Work with outreach and business development assets on campus to best meet the enrollment goals of the university.
- Serve as an expert in changing regulations, evolving trends, and best practices in admissions and higher education to proactively implement necessary changes so that the university achieves enrollment goals.
- Evaluate and improve the practices of the student-enrollment experience, including timely, effective and positive engagement with students and families throughout the entirety of their experiences with admissions, financial aid and registration.
- Develop and use existing and emerging technologies to communicate and build relationships with students, families, community colleges and secondary school leadership.
- Proactively builds and supports a comprehensive set of programs for recruitment and admission initiatives with a broad array of community colleges, early college credit and military transfer programs to ensure student access to and success at the university.
- Optimize use of available federal, state, and institutional resources in the recruitment and retention of students while ensuring campus compliance with all federal and state agencies’ regulations and policies.
- Provide leadership and management best practices to develop a strong sense of teamwork, equity and investment among the AVEM team.
- Establish an environment of encouragement, mentoring and support of a diverse set of ideas.
- Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
- Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
A master’s degree or a combination of a bachelor’s degree and relevant experience.
Required Experience
- 5 years of progressively responsible and demonstrated success in higher education enrollment management, including marketing, with at least 5 years as a supervisor of professional staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across university divisions to advance a unified recruitment strategy.
- Prior work with the strategic planning process, including development and execution.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including expertise in presenting publicly and speaking on behalf of the university.
- Ability to identify data needed to drive decision-making as well as analyze and present enrollment metrics.
