Faculty Rank or Job Title: Athletic Director Job Category: Administrative (exempt/non-exempt) Department: Intercollegiate Athletics EEO number: 26P321 Position FTE: 100% Minimum Annual or Hourly Rate: Salary Band: S12 Job Summary/Basic Function The Athletic Director, reporting to the President, provides strategic leadership and direction that intensifies the excitement and achievement of Wright State University Athletics and increases community and public engagement with the Raiders. Responsible for long-range planning for all administrative, management, facilities, fundraising, marketing, and public relations for an NCAA Division I program, ensuring compliance with NCAA and league standards, Title IX, state and federal laws. Serves as a key ambassador for the University, actively engaging in fundraising activities and alumni relations initiatives. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree, preferably in business, sports management, or related field, and
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience within NCAA intercollegiate athletics, or comparable experience in closely related environments, with a strong preference for Division I athletics experience.
- Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop effective relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
- Proven fundraising and marketing experience.
- Demonstrated fiscal integrity and management experience.
- Commitment to inclusive excellence and gender equity.
- Thorough understanding of NCAA compliance requirements.
- Master's degree and executive management experience in athletics department at a similar university.
- Articulating the philosophy and vision for the future of intercollegiate athletics while advancing competitive excellence and institutional priorities.
- Planning, developing, and implementing strategies for generating revenues and resources for Wright State Athletics, including oversight of marketing, promotions, and public relations.
- Demonstrating an understanding of the evolving intercollegiate athletics landscape, including Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities and emerging revenue sharing models, and providing strategic oversight of institutional approaches in these areas.
- Representing Wright State internally and externally to key stakeholders including media, alumni, donors, prospective student-athletes and families, and governing bodies such as the NCAA and Horizon League.
- Participating in institutional planning and policy-making committees, including those related to enrollment and student success.
- Overseeing the development of recruitment and communication
- Championing a culture of academic excellence, integrity, and accountability for student athlete success.
- Ensuring alignment with institutional academic priorities and fostering collaboration with academic and student support units.
- Supporting student-athlete welfare, including academic progress, retention, graduation, and post-graduate success.
- Ensuring all athletic programs operate in compliance with Wright State, NCAA, and Horizon League policies, and applicable federal and state regulations.
- Maintaining NCAA certification and overseeing all required reporting and eligibility standards.
- Upholding the highest ethical and professional standards across all athletics programs.
- Building and sustaining a cohesive, high-performing internal culture that prioritizes collaboration, accountability and shared success.
- Setting performance expectations, monitoring outcomes, and fostering a culture of accountability and professional development.
- Managing resources and adjusting priorities to meet evolving departmental needs.
