Athletic Operations Coordinator

The Wesleyan Athletic Department, located in the Freeman Athletic Center, a state-of-the-art facility, is a member of the prestigious New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). They sponsor 30 varsity sports and believe athletics plays an integral part in a Wesleyan scholar–athlete’s liberal arts education.
Reporting to the Equipment Room Manager, the Athletic Operations Coordinator will assist the department’s effort in providing quality customer service to students, faculty, staff and external clients as well as provide equipment room services for students/athletes in all aspects of an intercollegiate athletics program.
Responsibilities include:
Equipment & Facility Operations
- Assist with laundering team uniforms.
- Issue athletic equipment to sports teams.
- Maintain and update electronic inventory of athletic equipment.
- Assist with athletic equipment repair and maintenance.
- Assist with supervising the use of athletic facilities.
- Responsible for opening the Freeman Athletic Center and securing facilities at closing.
- Monitor work-study personnel on weeknights and weekends.
- Serve as desk monitor for both the main building entrance and fitness center.
Event & Rental Management
- Supervise rental events, ensuring a clean, safe, and secure environment.
- Provide on-site event support and troubleshoot operational issues as they arise.
- Interface with rental clients and members of the Wesleyan community.
- Assist with execution of the emergency medical plan during rental and campus events.
- Assist with daily and evening oversight of the Freeman Athletic Center, including resolving facility and scheduling conflicts.
Contest Management
- Assist with coordination and execution of intercollegiate athletic contests.
- Assist with preparing facilities for home competitions, including setup and breakdown of equipment, benches, scorer’s tables, and signage.
Other duties as assigned.
This is an on-campus position. This position is 0.97 FTE and works 1885 hrs per year.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of experience in an athletics or related setting or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Knowledge of athletic facilities and equipment.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills across multiple constituencies.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, student-athletes, administrators, alumni, and campus partners.
- Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse and inclusive environment.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds, climb ladders, assemble and disassemble equipment with or without accommodation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Experience with event and facility management.
- Familiarity with NCAA Division III and NESCAC regulations.
- Experience with athletic equipment maintenance.
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification.
