Autism Adviser

The Accessibility and Disability Resource Centre (ADRC) invites applications for the role of Autism Adviser. This post is fixed-term for two years or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.

About the Team:

The Accessibility and Disability Resource Centre (ADRC) is part of the Student Support Department within Education Services. The ADRC provides advice, information and support to disabled and neurodivergent applicants, undergraduates, graduates, and prospective students as well as to the staff who support them. It also provides support and advice to Colleges and Departments/Faculties in relation to disability equality matters.

About the Role:

You will provide specialist advice, guidance and support to current and prospective autistic students, and staff who support neurodivergent students. You will also work closely with academic and support staff within university departments and institutions as well as with other professional services staff within the University's Student Services Centre. The post-holder will report to the Senior Neurodiversity Adviser.

Your Skills:

You will be qualified at degree level and hold an autism specific qualification at post-graduate level. Membership of a relevant professional body (such as NADP) at Senior Accredited Member level would be desirable. You should have recent relevant experience of advising autistic students and have an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of legislation, regulatory guidance and debate in relation to disability equality in a tertiary education setting. An understanding of, and commitment to, the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) would also be an advantage.

You will need excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences and expectations, demonstrating a commitment to equality of opportunity. The ability to work to deadlines in a busy support service environment is essential.
