Auto/Equipment Mechanic
Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director- Architectural Trades & Auto Services, the Automotive/Equipment Mechanic is assigned to the Auto Shop within the Maintenance & Operations unit of the Facilities Development & Operations and works independently or as a team member under the general supervision of the Auto Shop Supervisor. The Automotive/Equipment Mechanic performs the full range of skilled journey-level automotive/heavy equipment mechanical work in the overhaul, repair, maintenance, service and adjustment of automotive, heavy maintenance, heavy construction, and other specialty equipment and engines.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect automotive, maintenance, construction and/or farm equipment to determine necessary corrective action
- Diagnose and repair electrical systems in vehicles and equipment
- Make minor-to-major repairs to automobiles and similar vehicles, engines, and/or to maintenance and construction equipment
- Fabricate, construct and/or modify equipment, mechanical, engine and body parts
- Perform smog tests
- Repair pump and compressor engines
- Maintain vehicle inspection, maintenance and repair records using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems
Required Qualifications
These abilities normally would be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience as an automotive and/or equipment mechanic which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard apprenticeship program. Must participate in all OSHA required physicals and examinations.
