The Heritage and Building Maintenance Team sits within Estates Services Operations and is responsible for maintaining a diverse portfolio of over 300 buildings. These range from listed heritage buildings and museums to modern research facilities, libraries, teaching spaces, residential properties, and Graduate Accommodation.

About the Role

As a Building Fabric Supervisor (known internally as Building Maintenance Inspector), you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing one of the most unique and complex estates in the UK. You will manage repairs, maintenance, and minor refurbishment works across academic buildings, residential properties, Graduate Accommodation, and historic assets.

You will manage a varied workload of maintenance tasks and projects assigned across the University estate, diagnosing building fabric defects and delivering effective, practical solutions. You will oversee works from initial inspection through to completion, ensuring quality, safety, and value for money.

The role is varied and highly collaborative, involving regular engagement with key stakeholders, including departmental representatives, building users, contractors, fellow Building Maintenance Inspectors, and the wider Estates team to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption.

About You

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience in building maintenance, estates management, facilities management, building surveying, or a related construction environment.
  • Strong understanding of building construction, maintenance processes, and diagnosing building fabric defects.
  • Experience coordinating contractors and overseeing repairs, maintenance, or small works projects.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety requirements relating to contractor management and building works, including CDM regulations.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across a large and varied organisation.
  • Good IT and administrative skills, including maintaining accurate electronic records.
