Job Description Summary
This position, reporting directly to Senior Building Administrator of the Department, will be tasked with working under limited supervision to coordinate the appropriate maintenance and repair of all four existing buildings in the Chemistry Complex. The Building Services Assistant will regularly inspect all structural, mechanical and electrical systems in the Chemistry Complex and issue reports on their condition as necessary.
Job Description
Penn Chemistry is housed in a complex of buildings providing classrooms, teaching and research laboratories, analytical instrumentation, library services, and support operations. The Chemistry Complex is located within the heart of the Penn campus, and Penn Chemistry is central to many multidisciplinary research efforts on campus, both geographically and scientifically. The School of Medicine and the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences are adjacent to the complex, which facilitates interactions and makes Chemistry an exciting and forward-looking hub for research programs spanning traditional boundaries.
DUTIES:
- Regularly assist building administrator in tracking the completion of maintenance work and repairs by Facilities Services mechanics.
- Organize and track department keys.
- Maintain Department furniture, lab equipment, gridwork and shop equipment (and be able to work with hand tools.)
- Assist with building security, health and fire safety planning.
- Assist with set up of rooms for major departmental events.
- Assist in the Chemistry Stockroom as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Degree and 1-2 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong verbal communication skills as well as excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet demanding deadlines.
- Strong initiative and ability to work independently as well as with a team.
- Proficiency in hand tools and larger shop tools.
- Computer proficiency essentials including MS Office.
