The University of Medicine and Health Sciences School of Medicine, chartered on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean with a clinical campus located in South Portland, Maine and with corporate offices in New York City is seeking a unique individual who is trained and experienced in an allied medical field to provide clinical skills training to third year students and coordination of our preceptorship program in our clinical campus located in South Portland, Maine.

Position Description

The UMHS Maine Campus Preceptorship/CSL Director is the primary point of contact for, and facilitator of, the Introduction to Clinical Medicine II (ICM II) course Preceptorship and the Clinical Skills Lab experiences. The Preceptorship/CSL Director interacts closely with area physicians and advanced level practitioners, office staff, and CSL instructors who oversee and mentor UMHS students during their Maine Preceptorship and Clinical Skills Lab experiences. In addition, the Preceptorship/CSL Director provides instruction to medical students on various clinical procedural skills and ensures that all students meet their objectives for completing the Preceptorship and CSL portions of the ICM II course.

General Responsibilities

Provides students with an Orientation to Clinical Skills Lab and Preceptorship. Provides certified training to the students for the OSHA required topics of HIPAA Compliance, Blood Bourne Pathogens and Needle Stick safety.

The medical skills for this course include the following: Base line Vital Signs, Orthostatic Vital Signs, Peak Flow, Spirometry and incentive spirometer use, Pelvic Exam, Testicular & Prostate Exam, Breast Exam, Montreal Cognitive Assessment, Subcutaneous Injection, Intramuscular Injection, PPD Skin Test, glucometer use, Arterial Blood Gas, Adult Endotracheal Intubation, IV Placement, Venipuncture, and 12-lead EKG. Maintains CSL equipment and orders needed supplies.

This position is responsible for trainings and on-boarding CSL instructors as needed. Additionally, schedules instructors for CSL, BLS-CPR, and ACLS teaching sessions. Complies with FERPA and HIPPA regulations when working with student academic and health records.

This position maintains and enhances established Preceptorship relationships, develops new relationships and works to improve or otherwise expand the Preceptorship program. Assigns preceptorship for students and ensures clear communication between students, preceptors, and the university.

Requirements for this position

• Clinically relevant degree with a current license as one of the following: PA, NP, RN or BSN.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in teaching medical or nursing students in an academic setting.
• Skills lab experience required.
• Passion for teaching students who will become medical doctors of tomorrow.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Superior organizational skills.
• Ability to function independently and work as part of a team environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and online platform skills.

The position is full time at the UMHS South Portland Campus. Salary is commensurate with experience.
