Campus Veterinarian (Temporary Position) (Licensed Professional)
Overview
The Campus Veterinarian provides professional medical oversight and veterinary care for all animals housed at Mt. San Antonio College’s farm, equine, and instructional facilities. This position reports directly to the Dean of the Natural Sciences Division, who also serves as the Institutional Official (IO) for the College’s animal care and use program. The Veterinarian collaborates closely with the Farm Manager and Program Director to coordinate daily animal health, welfare, and biosecurity operations that support both instructional and production activities on campus.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide clinical oversight, routine examinations, and on-call consultation for animal health and welfare.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop preventive medicine, nutrition, and biosecurity protocols.
- Review and advise on the care, housing, and use of animals consistent with USDA Animal Welfare Act standards.
- Participate as a standing member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
- Oversee compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards related to animal welfare, disease control, and biosecurity.
- Maintain accurate records of animal health and treatments.
- Serve as a resource for training and education in animal care and welfare.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) degree from an AVMA-accredited institution.
- Current, active California veterinary license in good standing.
- Minimum two (2) years of clinical experience in companion animal, livestock, or academic practice.
- Demonstrated knowledge of animal welfare and husbandry standards applicable to instructional settings.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
