Canada Impact+ Research Chair in Climate and Environmental Change (Professor or Associate Professor, Tenure-Track)
Position Overview
The Department of Geography and Tourism Studies (DGTS) in the Faculty of Social Sciences at Brock University welcomes applications from world-leading scholars in Climate and Environmental Change for the Canada Impact+ Research Chair. This prestigious chair is part of a $1 billion federal investment to attract internationally renowned researchers outside Canada in strategic priority areas like environment, climate resilience, and the Arctic.
Valued at $8M or $4M over 8 years (with possible 4-year extension), it supports transformative physical science research on climate change impacts (e.g., Arctic/boreal ecosystems, Great Lakes, water resources, extreme weather) and resilience strategies. Chairholders will build partnerships, mobilize research into practice/policy, and develop HQP.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead innovative research program aligned with federal priorities.
- Collaborate with stakeholders for adaptation/mitigation strategies.
- Teach in BSc physical geography; supervise students.
- Contribute to equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization.
Qualifications
- International recognition in climate/environmental research.
- PhD or equivalent; eligible for Professor or promotion to Professor within 2 years.
- Proven impact via publications, grants, knowledge mobilization.
- Residing outside Canada.
- Commitment to inclusive teaching/mentorship.
Salary and Benefits
Target range: $128,000 - $178,000 CAD annually. Competitive benefits, research support, partial teaching release, start-up funds.
