Certified Clinical Assistant Flex
Position Description
Employees in this classification provide patient care management to an assigned clinic in the areas of clerical and clinical duties. In the clinical setting, the employee receives direct supervision from a physician or nursing supervisor in either oral or written form. In the office setting, the employee receives direct supervision from the department administrator. Work is performed under usual office and clinic conditions, and may be stressful when working under emergency conditions.
Major/Essential Functions
- Performs patient intake, including accurate documentation of patient height, weight, and vital signs.
- Conducts point-of-care testing (POCs), pulmonary function tests (PFTs), and electrocardiograms (EKGs) as ordered by providers.
- Maintains quality metrics by accurately and efficiently entering data into the electronic medical record (EMR) to support ACO, DSRIP, TIPPS, or other departmental grant or waiver programs.
- Administers medications and injections within the CMA scope of practice and in accordance with TTUHSC policies.
- Provides patient education as directed by the provider and in alignment with clinic standards.
- Completes all required documentation and enters charges daily to support timely billing.
- Communicates with patients via telephone and/or EMR messaging according to clinic protocols.
- Monitors and clears clinical pools and faxes routinely throughout the day to ensure timely follow-up and coordination of care.
- Assists and/or chaperones physicians during patient exams and procedures as needed.
- Prepares and operates necessary medical equipment and instruments for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Travel between Midland and Odessa for Internal Medicine and Endo clinics.
