Alabama State University, College of Business Administration/Department of Computer Information Systems, invites applications for the position of Chair, Associate/Full Professor of Computer Information Systems. The Chair position serves as the chief academic and administrative officer for the department, providing strategic leadership while fostering excellence in teaching, research, and service. This position encompasses oversight of departmental operations, faculty development, curriculum innovation, and resource management.
Faculty teach within their academic disciplines and are responsible for successfully addressing established student learning outcomes in each course and section. Faculty teach courses at times, locations, and via modalities that best respond to student and departmental needs, Faculty conduct both teaching and research and are always Scholarly Academic (SA) as per AACSB standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach assigned courses and successfully address established learning outcomes
- Facilitate, and inspire learning through proven and innovative teaching, and academic support methodologies
- Plan all lessons, and assignments with a focus on student success
- Develop and deliver course curricula and syllabi for each course section delivered, ensuring compliance with college and department standards
- Assess students' progress and adjust instructional techniques, resources, and assignments as appropriate
- Remain up-to-date with developments in the discipline and best practices for teaching in the discipline by reading scholarly articles, talking with colleagues, participating in professional conferences, conducting appropriate classroom-based research designed to improve student learning outcomes, and/or publishing original research and analyses in books and academic journals
- Establish academic standards, promote effective teaching methodologies ensuring comprehensive student advising
- Advise students on an individual basis about courses required for degree completion, and how to achieve their short-term and long-term academic and career goals
- Hold responsibility for recruitment, mentorship, and performance evaluation of faculty and staff of the department
- Make evidence-based recommendations regarding promotion and tenure while fostering scholarly productivity and teaching effectiveness
- Oversee departmental fiscal planning, administers the annual budget to ensure responsible resource allocation
- Cultivate industry partnerships and grant development opportunities to expand departmental funding and enhance student learning experiences
- Provide services both to the University and the community
- Participate in shared governance by serving on academic and administrative committees that review and recommend policies, deliberate budgets, advise on hiring and promotions within the department, and other college activities
An earned doctorate degree in Computer Information Systems or Management Information Systems from an AACSB accredited business school. 5 years of full-time collegiate academic experience in Computer Information Systems or Management Information Systems, 3 years of academic administrative experience in a collegiate setting, have basic knowledge of proposal writing and grant administration, and hold the rank of Associate, or Full Professor in a Computer Information Systems or Management Information Systems Department.
