About the opportunity (position overview)

The University of Sydney is seeking an outstanding academic clinician to join as Chair of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) at the level of Associate Professor or Professor, a prestigious leadership role that will drive transformative research and clinical excellence in fertility and reproductive medicine at one of Australia's leading academic institutions. Based within the Reproduction and Perinatal Centre (RPC) and Westmead Clinical School, the Chair will undertake academic teaching and research, adding to the RPC's strong program in maternal and fetal medicine, pregnancy, and its disorders by developing and leading a new research stream in reproductive endocrinology.

In this role, the successful candidate will contribute to shaping a strategic research agenda in REI with strong translational impact, foster a thriving environment for early and mid-career researchers, and build interdisciplinary collaborations across the University and its Westmead partners. They will also support high-quality teaching and supervision of medical and health professional students, with potential opportunities to contribute to clinical care within the Westmead Health Precinct-all within a highly supportive and collaborative ecosystem.

About you (skills, capabilities and experience)

To be the successful candidate, you will be a medical practitioner who is registered or eligible for registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). You will be a distinguished academic Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with a strong track record in reproductive endocrinology and infertility research. You will hold a PhD (or equivalent qualification) and hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) or equivalent specialist registration. You will also have Certification of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI) or equivalent with continuing medical education in the field of REI.

The successful applicant will be required to engage with all relevant NSW Health policy process requirements, to have their qualifications formally recognised, to support a request for an eligible Clinical appointment.

Applicants with strong track records of clinical leadership within the health system and excellence in education, but without higher academic qualifications, may also be considered for appointment as Associate Professor or Professor of Practice.

The successful candidate will also:

  • Have an established clinical reputation and demonstrated experience in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI)
  • Be a researcher with an international reputation, capable of leading and producing competitive research in REI
  • Have proven leadership experience as a successful administrator of a research group or academic department
  • Possess a wide network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners, and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the RPC, WFC, and the University

Term and remuneration

The successful candidate will be offered a 5-year fixed-term position on a full-time basis, with the possibility for renewal subject to assessment of performance. The appointment is subject to completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees.

The selected candidate will be offered an attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.

Pre-employment checks

Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University. Similarly, your ongoing employment is conditional upon the satisfactory maintenance of all relevant clearances and background check requirements. If you do not meet these conditions, the University may take any necessary step, including the termination of your employment.
