Chair of the Department of Construction Management
Job Summary
Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for an administrative faculty position as a tenured Professor and Chair of the Department of Construction Management and the Brent Scarbrough and Company Endowed Chair in Construction Management with a preferred start date of January 1, 2027. This is a twelve-month contracted position and work is to be performed in the state of Georgia.
Responsibilities
- Providing leadership, strategy, and vision for the department, in collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and other college and university administrators.
- Advancing the department in all components of its mission: education, research/creative activities, and community engagement.
- Working with department faculty and college and university administrators to enhance the national prominence of the department, its faculty, and students.
- Supervising curriculum and teaching and overseeing department-level assessment and accreditation activities.
- Managing and growing the Master of Science in Construction Management Program.
- Supporting and encouraging a culture of diverse scholarship, teaching and service activities and fostering a climate of collaboration and collegiality.
- Advocating for the needs of the Department's programs, students, and faculty.
- Providing stewardship of the department's fiscal resources and budgets in support of the strategic objectives of the department, college, and university.
- Strengthening interdisciplinary connections with other college/university units and disciplines, as well as expanding and enhancing connections with partners in the construction industry and other external stakeholders.
- Supporting faculty professional development including effectively mentoring junior faculty.
- Assisting the Dean with fundraising efforts.
The position will be primarily administrative service with teaching and research/creative activities opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- An earned doctoral degree, or its foreign equivalent, in Construction Management or a closely related field, with an academic background and appropriate credentials to be a tenured Full Professor in the Department of Construction Management in the College of Architecture and Construction Management at KSU.
- Demonstrated record of effective leadership.
- Demonstrated record of national-level achievement in construction management-related scholarship, research, or the construction industry.
- Demonstrated record of exceptional teaching and mentoring.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in academic administration.
- Demonstrated experience in graduate student recruitment and managing and growing graduate programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of ACCE accreditation and the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC).
- Demonstrated experience in fiscal management, personnel management, faculty hiring, and retention.
- Demonstrated experience in effectively supervising and mentoring other faculty in administrative roles.
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with external business and professional communities, Advisory Boards, foundations, and funding agencies.
- Demonstrated success building and sustaining partnerships with construction industry organizations, government agencies, and professional societies that support internships, research collaborations, competitions, industry mentorship and other programs.
- Demonstrated record of success in securing extramural funding for research, scholarship, creative activities, or professional activities.
- Demonstrated experience participating in or fostering interdisciplinary research collaborations.
- Professional licensure (Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Certified Professional Constructor (CPC)).
