A new stream in Master of Arts in Applied Social Sciences, named Clinical Mental Health Practice, has been launched in AY2025/26. The new stream Clinical Mental Health Practice aims to help students, who are social workers, counsellors and helping professionals, to develop their specialised knowledge and practice competence to work with a diversity of people with mental health problems and needs, such as schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, personality disorder, autism, attention deficit & hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia, prolong grief disorder, and dementia (please visit https://www.cityu.edu.hk/pg/programme/p77 for more details).
Duties
Candidates should be able to teach courses related to clinical assessment and intervention in working with a diversity of people with mental health problems. Candidates should also contribute to research and education in this new stream (including supervising students’ project, and managing student activities and academic programmes); actively engage in research and promote/participate in cross/interdisciplinary projects; and contribute to departmental administration and knowledge transfer.
Requirements
A PhD in Social Work/Counselling/Clinical Psychology/Psychiatry or closely related fields. Candidates are expected to have a strong track record in research, publications and grant acquisitions in the field of mental health.
Candidates for Assistant Professor should have demonstrated potential for high-impact publication and grant capture. Candidates for Associate Professor should have a strong record of original intellectual achievement, as evidenced by research or publications and grant capture as well as a strong teaching record and contributions to instructional development. Candidates for Chair Professor and Professor should have a portfolio of significant contributions to their field of scholarship (including publications and the receipt of research grants or funds), and a strong record of providing leadership in teaching and educational activities (including supervision of graduate students) and professional experience.
Salary and Conditions of Service
Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance. Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable). Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
