Florida A&M University is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Chief of Staff (Director of Operations) vacancy.
Requirements
- Represent the interests and priorities of the Division of Research through effective communication, coordination, and integration of the SVP and EVP for HSE&RI special projects, priorities, and key objectives; Serve as a key partner and liaison to enhance research partnerships and operations across the university; Provide leadership to SVP and EVP HSE&RI initiatives and special projects; Prioritize partnerships and strategic collaboration to ensure projects are moved forward and tracked for progress through completion by developing and managing project timelines; Work closely and proactively with the HSC and Research Leadership to manage program initiatives.
- Oversee a variety of projects and initiatives related to ongoing Division of Research operations that are related, but not limited to employee engagement, communications, human resource support, research finance coordination, vendor engagement, MOU management, process enhancements, and infrastructure growth and connectivity; Support projects and initiatives in partnership with the HSE and Division of Research teams to ensure key activities are implemented effectively, and metrics are considered in decision-making and prioritizing process improvements initiatives; Proactively identify issues and provides suggestions for resolution.
- Work on internal and external communications of mission-oriented initiatives; Create presentations, collateral material, and other communications in partnership with the SVP/EVP HSE&RI; Partner with university and school communication teams to ensure thoughtful, strategic, and routine communications are shared with FAMU faculty, staff, and students; Lead the development, coordination, and dissemination of strategic/business plans, annual reports, and special communications to FAMU partners and the FAMU Research Enterprise.
- Participate in data interpretation and communication for the Division of Research annual engagement survey and other feedback surveys on behalf of the SVP and EVP; Coordinate the feedback for SVP and EVP initiatives; Work systematically while also thinking through meeting planning and outcomes; Support initiatives to ensure metrics are considered in decision-making and prioritizing process improvement initiatives; Work closely to manage the preparation of and efforts for school and unit partnership meetings, presentations, and ongoing transparency initiatives; May represent the SVP and/or EVP at meetings and university events as needed; May manage administrative assistants (AA) and other support staff of HSC and Division of Research.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of related experience; or master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of related experience.

- Demonstrated ability to lead, organize, and manage complex projects;
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills;
- Must be team-focused and experienced in collaboration across multidisciplinary functional areas and collaborative environments.
Administrative and Professional and A&P Executive Service (A&P EX) positions are considered contractual. Terms and conditions are generally recognized by contract for a specific period of time or contracts renewed on an annual basis. Certain benefits, amount of leave, and notification of termination are exclusive to the pay plan.
In accordance with Florida Statute 112.219, relevant work experience may substitute for the required education: 4 years of experience in lieu of a Bachelor's, or 6 years in lieu of a Master's.
