Chief, Tele-ICU Critical Care Anesthesiologist (Penn E-lert) – Associate/Full Professor

Description

The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Expertise is required in the specific area of critical care medicine with telemedicine as a subspecialty skillset desirable. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. ABA certification in both anesthesiology and critical care medicine along with ability to obtain Pennsylvania and New Jersey licenses are required. Rank will be commensurate with experience.

Teaching responsibilities may include the instruction of medical students, residents, and fellows rotating through critical care units across the Penn Medicine Health System as well as participation in lectures, small groups, workshops, and/or simulation sessions.

Clinical responsibilities may include identifying evolving patient issues and offering real-time clinical decision support to nurses, APPs, Residents, and Fellows. Other responsibilities include ensuring the Penn Medicine Critical Care quality measures are upheld.

Additional responsibilities will include leadership in the Tele-ICU. The successful candidate will be expected to recruit, support, and mentor faculty specializing in tele-critical care within the division, including participation and collaboration to improve patient care, and collaboration with other leaders in the Department, Service Line, Hospital, VA and Health System to improve the division. The Chief role will come with 20% non-clinical time.

Penn E-LERT is a tele-ICU program that utilizes state-of-art technology to provide a sophisticated layer of clinical support to the intensive care units throughout the University of Pennsylvania Health System. The program supports over 500 intensive care beds with Penn E-LERT deployed as a health system standard of care. Clinicians utilize software technology, hardware technology, and trended data analysis to proactively identify impending or evolving patient problems, continually offering real-time clinical decision support, in collaboration with the bedside clinicians, on conditions that require immediate attention.
